I've decided that every school year, I should be pushing myself to try at least one (if not more) new thing regarding my teaching. Now that new thing could be anything to do with instruction, management, you name it - of course, I hope to be trying new things all the time, but I mean one really big thing - something that pushes me outside of my comfort zone. This year it's going to be SeeSaw. Now I know many teachers love it and have been using it forever, but it's always alluded me. I spent some time with my dear friend Emily who teaches first-grade, and she SHOWED me how SeeSaw has been so powerful in her classroom. I guess I needed to see it for myself. Or I needed Emily, who always seems to show me new and powerful things, to be the one to really open my eyes.
So I've signed up. I've entered my students. I've printed letters for families. I've got iPads (I need to make sure they're ready to go) - and I'm planning on having my sprouts use SeeSaw to document their reading, writing, math, and play. I'm sure there will be bumps, but I also know the power of self-reflection and sharing their learning with their families will push me over those bumps.
What 'new' (and possibly scary) thing are you going to try this year? I'd love to hear about it in the comments.
